wtf #1) Gah, this stinks, and is out of the blue. I didn't always agree with things he said, but he was a damn fine news anchor in a world full of hacks.

wtf #2) He was 67??!?!? Probably what caused most of my surprise is that I thought he was a lot younger. Not that 67 year olds should casually drop dead, but still, he either had a good surgeon, or he was in darn good shape.

A rotten shame.

i've been missin him since he's been off the air. i agree he was a pro. i was amazed to learn he hadnt graduated from hs...i guess his time as a correspondent was a better education.

i noticed he looked a bit thinner for a short while before they announced he was being treated. during his last broadcast he sounded pretty bad.

i thought he was older than he was (like closer to rather than brokaw). not cuz he looked older tho. he just seemed to have been around for so much stuff.

it is a rotten shame.

I just got up becauase I couldn't sleep and saw this. It drew an audible 'oh no' from me....something even Ronald Regan's passing didn't do.

I can't think of anything to say other than I will miss him and it's a damn shame.

I wrote more about it at:  http://karmagirl.joeuser.com/index.asp?AID=83076

I felt that there needed to be more said about him.  67 is so young in today's terms.  But lung cancer doesn't care about age.

With him, goes the last thread of integrity in journalism. Rather and Brokaw are gone, and with Jennings passing away. I don't think there is anyone that can bring the news in an honest and respectable way like these guys have.

Watching the news will never be the same. He will be missed.

Kind of sudden.  Now the 2nd 3 are all gone (I grew up with Cronkite, Huntley and Brinkley, Howard K. Smith)
