Who Ya Gonna Believe? GWB Or Them Lyin Ears Of Yours?
Published on February 24, 2005 By kingbee In Current Events

if former friend doug wead had taped george w. bush stopping short of candidly admitting he never used drugs, it would be a much bigger story.  no matter how straightforward and morally valued his supporters may believe him to be, if they wouldn't happily sell the family cow for some magic beans, they either have enough magic beans already or they simply aren't that naive.

it's not that he exhibits any of the so-called telltale stoner symptoms, although his public speaking style does seem  to have been more influenced by tommy chongs  'dave's not here' oration than any other model of elocution (ironicaly, tommy has only 5 months to go before he's off probation--not for smoking dope but for  “glamorizing the illegal distribution and use of marijuana”  in such a way as to  “trivialize law-enforcement efforts to combat drug trafficking and use.”  according to the john ashcroft proxy who prosecuted chong).

just so yall don't get the wrong idea here, i not only have no problem with the future president's previous drug use--whether or not he just smoked some pot or used cocaine  (his vehement insistence to wead that he hasn't denied doing blow leads me to believe he did).  if anything, i'm convinced he quit using dope too soon for anyones benefit, especially his own.

although this may eventually change, since the story broke, sympathy seems to be  the most prevalent  reaction to the whole sordid story of bush's betrayal by doug wead (the religious right's answer to dr phil).  totally undeserved sympathy, too, in my opinion.  not because i don't think it was a rotten thing for wead to have done, but because if you're gonna surround yourself with snakes, you don't deserve a lotta consolation when you wind up snakebit.

despite his no longer being with us, goldwater's innate wisdom continues to shine on in his absence.  when good ol doug wead ran for congress in 1992--loudly proclaiming himself one of barry's heirs-- goldwater not only refused to support him, but actually endorsed wead's democrat opponent.

(karl rove is another one, but that's no big secret).

anyway the really deplorable thing about all this--once again in my opinion--is how badly moral values have been devalued by those who attribute them to themselves while lying into the camera--in collusion with those who accept those lies at face value.  shining it on by claiming to expect lies from politicians leads to a place where antispyware software developers intentionally permit some scumware to thrive on your computer, gay escort entrepreneurs impersonate journalists as well as females and someone in the whitehouse feels comfortable in committing treason by publicly outing a cia agent, betting on the public's refusal to say shit while gulping it down.

I feel pretty much the same about Prs. Bush's possible "youthfullness" in his college days as I did with the whole "I didn't inhale" thing with Prs. Clinton... YAWN!!!

Just as I'm sure Kerry wasn't into the whole "Peace, Love, Dope" scene with nothing but Peace and Love on his mind! ;~D

Now, if some betrayal of friendship (or other believeable means) showed a sitting president with a little white cloud in the White House, that would be totally different. ;~D

Be, or "have been"? There's nothing there that speaks of him using drugs now. This is him not knowing he was being taped:

""Do you want your little kid, to say, 'Hey daddy, President Bush tried marijuana; I think I will?'" said Bush on the tapes. "That's the message we've been sending out. I wouldn't answer the marijuana question.""

Doesn't sound like something to be ashamed you said to me. He also in another section says:

"Wead says that a supporter was telling people Bush had promised not to hire gays. "No, what I said was I wouldn't fire gays," Bush says, irritated. In one passage Bush recounts a meeting with a minister who seemed to wish Bush would knock the gays for kicks 'n' grins. "I'm not going to kick gays," he said to Wead, "because I'm a sinner. How can I differentiate sin?" He later remarked that "this is an issue I have been trying to downplay. I think it is bad for Republicans to be kicking gays.""

You'd think that would be a point of interest, but all people want to do is talk about pot. I agree with Bush. Better to have some decorum and not answer the question at all than be a pussy and claim you never inhaled...

I agree the drug use was a long time ago. It is a shame that today Bush can not come clean about what he did in the past.

My problem is that given the resume of George W. Bush that was factual under another name, that person, given his accomplishments, might be the asst mgr of a 7/11.

Two DWI Convictions
Drug Use
Lack luster college record (How does one get into Harvard with a "C" average?)
Used Family influence to get into and an early out of the National Guard.
Got people to invest millions in his two compaines that he ran into the ground.
How did he become the part owner and Mgr of the Rangers?
After that list of sterling accomplishments, he becomes Governor of Texas.
Finally President of the US.I guess that shows it does not matter what YOU accomplish so long as you father is a powerful person!

Wow, Col Gene.. Really? Thanks for showing such depth of opinion and personality. Your range of insight is powerful and impressive! ;~D

My surprise is how more than half the voters in America do not understand this!
on Feb 24, 2005
This is really a non-issue for me. Past drug use doesn't disqualify Bush from holding office.

I think the quote that Baker posted about gays is an important one, I wish Bush had kept to that idea rather than supporting an ammendment to the constitution that "kicks gays." It shows me the guy at least has some personal views I can respect, even if he lets the evangelical right dictate policy sometimes.
on Feb 24, 2005
My point is not his use of drugs but his total lack of achievements. He is an example of how anyone in America can be president so long as you have the right father.
on Feb 24, 2005
Tell that to Ron Reagan Jr. I don't think he'd get elected.
on Feb 24, 2005
Well at least the voters know that they elected a "former" pothead to office.
on Feb 24, 2005
I wonder if the majority religion in the country was scientologist would GWB be talking to L. Ron Hubbard before reading the news everyday?
on Feb 24, 2005
I do not know about Ron Reagan Jr. but George W. would not be President or Governor of Texas without the help of his father and the powerful friends of his family! His achievements, by his own efforts are nothing!
on Feb 24, 2005
help of his father and the powerful friends of his family!

This has been going on a lot longer than just this presidency.
on Feb 24, 2005
Very true. But seldom has this process resulted in the election of a President that had so little background to deal with the foreign and domestic issues that face our country!
on Feb 24, 2005
This is big news in Europe. Not here in North America though. As usual the media ignores and selectively informs it's public.
