How I Spent My Politikal Kapital by G W Bush

"And if I were a soldier overseas wanting to defend my country, I'd want to ask the Secretary of Defense the same question, and that is, are we getting the best we can get us?" --George W. Bush 12/9/2004

chances are, he aint gonna be a soldier for at least the next 4 years.

since he is, and was, the president who decided to send solders overseas to defend our country a little less than 2 years ago, im hoping--but not terribly confident based on the way things worked out--he did ask the secretary of defense at that tiime  if all the troops were gonna be wearing effective body armor when they hit the ground and if the $180,000 humvees theyd be ridin around in offered our troops protection at least equivalent to a $100k domestic release hummer.

rummy ain't no dummy. he's been workin with bush for a while.  so he should be able to tease some meaning out of the question "soon-to-be-deployed private bush, george w" said yesterday he'd want answered

"are we getting the best we can get us?"-is the question in question (literally).

it's good bush finally got around to asking don.  it woulda been better if there'd been an immediate chorus of responses but there's that damn 'if' again.

one more reason im only halfway kiddingly wondering if it was asked..or answered --prior to march 2003.

*very softly singing a "if i were a soldier and you were secretary of defense* to the tune of if tim hardin's 'if i were a carpenter' while i continue to ponder this and similar 'if' questions*

I think Rummy said it best ... you can't go to war with the army you want .. you go with what you have. I am sure you believe that Sadam was not a threat though.

Welcome back, TW. Good to see those "smiling faces" .

Point on, kingbee. That's about as much of a public tongue lashing as you'll ever hear from Private Bush. I'm guessing Rummy got the message.

It is easy to zero in on a tree or two at the expense of the forest, though, and I hope this doesn't get blown out of (its appropriate) proportion.

were he to be totally candid, i dont think even rumsfeld himself would claim he said anything close to good--much less best--in response to the question posed by spc wilson.   while that particular pearl of wisdom does have a vague george c scott-as-patton feel to it, i'd suggest he focus a lil more on sun tzu ("Thus it is that in war the victorious strategist only seeks battle after the victory has been won, whereas he who is destined to defeat first fights and afterwards looks for victory") who musta been spinnin in his grave at sufficient speed that had he been wired to generate power, they coulda given the three gorges dam a day off.
