"And if I were a soldier overseas wanting to defend my country, I'd want to ask the Secretary of Defense the same question, and that is, are we getting the best we can get us?" --George W. Bush 12/9/2004
chances are, he aint gonna be a soldier for at least the next 4 years.
since he is, and was, the president who decided to send solders overseas to defend our country a little less than 2 years ago, im hoping--but not terribly confident based on the way things worked out--he did ask the secretary of defense at that tiime if all the troops were gonna be wearing effective body armor when they hit the ground and if the $180,000 humvees theyd be ridin around in offered our troops protection at least equivalent to a $100k domestic release hummer.
rummy ain't no dummy. he's been workin with bush for a while. so he should be able to tease some meaning out of the question "soon-to-be-deployed private bush, george w" said yesterday he'd want answered
"are we getting the best we can get us?"-is the question in question (literally).
it's good bush finally got around to asking don. it woulda been better if there'd been an immediate chorus of responses but there's that damn 'if' again.
one more reason im only halfway kiddingly wondering if it was asked..or answered --prior to march 2003.
*very softly singing a "if i were a soldier and you were secretary of defense* to the tune of if tim hardin's 'if i were a carpenter' while i continue to ponder this and similar 'if' questions*
